The Tamil script is a syllabic alphabet, and each letter represents a combination of a consonant sound and a vowel sound.

The Sangam literature, dating back from 300 BCE to 300 CE, is considered to be one of the greatest treasures of Tamil literature. It consists of poems and songs composed by Tamil scholars, poets, and musicians, which describe the social, cultural, and economic conditions of ancient Tamil society.

Tamil music and dance are inseparable from its culture. The classical music of Tamil Nadu is known as Carnatic music, and it is based on a complex system of ragas and talas. Bharatanatyam, a classical dance form originating in Tamil Nadu, is renowned for its grace, beauty, and intricate footwork.
